ISLAND corse

"ILE DE BEAUTE"

A true miniature continent, Corsica throne in the middle of the sea Mediterranean. Its landscapes, its monuments and its heavenly beaches make it an ideal destination for hiking, relaxing and discovering age-old heritage and traditions. The Corsican coastline, with a total length of more than 1,000 km, is the most varied and richest in France: crystal clear waters, immense beaches of fine sand, small deserted coves or granite cliffs populated by seabirds, Corsica offers a variety of seascapes unique in the Mediterranean. From Cap Corse, via the Lavezzi Islands and the large beaches (Ricanto, Ostriconi, Palombaggia, Santa Giula...), the capes of Porto, Girolata and the Calanches de Piana (classified by UNESCO) discover the multiple facets of this coastline. This diversity of landscapes is conducive to all activities (from hiking with the famous GR 20, to walks to discover the Agriates desert, Castaggniccia, the Ospédale forest, without forgetting golf (in Spérone) and all the water activities). The Corsica regional natural park covers two thirds of the surface of this preserved region, also rich in 5 nature reserves and marine parks.

1The decolonization process which unfolded for around thirty years, following the Second World War, seems to have been a general phenomenon, igniting all the territories previously colonized by European countries or by the Japanese. However, there were exceptions. Some, like those of the French West Indies, can be explained by history, with these islands becoming French territories even before systematic colonization really began in the 19th century. The result, within the bosom of the French Republic, is what is commonly called the “confetti of history”, overseas departments or territories. But the real exception to the decolonization process is, in the Mozambique Channel, an island in the Comoros archipelago, corse, which managed to resist the sense of history by fighting to remain French.

"Fromage" and Charcuterie

  • Real Corsican charcuterie is made from “nustral” pigs raised in semi-freedom. This species of island pig lives in the heart of forests and scrubland, it feeds on herbs, chestnuts, worms, fern roots, etc. (in addition to the food provided by the breeder). In the fall, the “porcu nustrale” feed exclusively on acorns and chestnuts. This is how they store the quality fat which will give all its flavor to Corsican charcuterie.
